UPDATE from ben: When I tried it it works well too, but it's using Google's custom search, not its own, for web searches: http://www.google.com/coop/cse/?hl=en

Here's the catch, it will be owned by for-profit wiki Inc. rather then wikimedia.
-that's a big let down to me, but ultimately it's great that soon google will have an open source competitor. In fact it's still somewhat cool for wikipedia in that the founders are hoping to donate some of the profits to wikimedia.

-so now we need to be the ones to develop a non-profit, non-commercial open source search engine.
